Auburn's recruiting has been scary and fun at the same time. It's what I call, "Welcome to Big Time Recruiting". We have been on this roller coaster for several months now, dating back to "Big Cat Weekend". We hosted several big time prospects and have received commitments from several of them as well. As the months have passed the roller coaster ride has gone up 100 ft, only to drop 200 ft.There are 8 days left until National Signing Day and plenty of things can happen on this ride in 8 days.
Here is all the latest news: Shon Coleman - He has said for several months now that he will take all of his visits even though he is committed to Auburn. It appears that Coleman will follow through and take all five of them. He has visited Auburn, Arkansas, and Ole Miss. He plans on visiting Alabama from Wed-Fri, and as of right now he plans to visit Miami for his 5th and final visit. As of right now I still feel good about him signing with Auburn. Percentage he signs with Auburn: 80% Byran Jones - He made the trip to Auburn a couple weeks ago and left very pleased with what he saw. He has been an Arkansas lean for sometime now and it appears that they are still his leader but Auburn is closing that lead a little bit. The coaches have made several trips to see him and plan to do so again before the dead period starts on Saturday. As of right now I would say that Auburn and Arkansas are neck-and-neck. Percentage he signs with Auburn: 60% Corey Lemonier - Corey has been fairly quiet since the calender year turned, but everyone knew in the end that it would be Auburn and Florida State. Auburn has had the lead for several months now, but it appears that Florida State is making a late charge as usual. As of right now I would put Auburn in the lead with Florida State closing the gap. Percentage he signs with Auburn: 70% Trovon Reed - Trovon has been committed to Auburn for a few months now and he just went on a visit to LSU. He went on the visit to LSU out of respect for his home state school, even though he knew they would try to sway him their way. He has stayed solid to Auburn throughout the process even with pressure from his high school coach. I have said all along I thought he would sign with Auburn and I'm sticking to it. Percentage he signs with Auburn: 90% D.J. Howard - As everyone knows by now, Howard went on an official visit to Clemson this past weekend. He also did it without telling the Auburn coaches. The Auburn coaches were very upset with Howard for taking the visit without telling them. Since then, the coaches and Howard have made up and it appears that he is headed to the Plains. Not so fast! There are 8 days left and I'm not sold on him signing with Auburn just yet. I have been going back and forth with this one for a while now, and I still believe in the end that if Lattimore ends up at Auburn then Howard will sign with Clemson. Percentage he signs with Auburn: 50% Jeffrey Whitaker - Whitaker has been getting a lot of in-state pressure to sign with Georgia, but he has been high on Auburn for several months now. He took an official visit to Georgia this past weekend and it gave him a lot to think about. He is also taking an official visit to Miami this weekend, so a lot of things can change but Auburn has been in the lead for quite sometime now and I don't expect that to change. I have felt very good about Auburn's chances to sign Whitaker for several months now and I don't expect that to change. Percentage he signs with Auburn: 80% Marcus Lattimore - Lattimore has visited Auburn several times since the Summer of 09', and it seems to me that every time he visits he leaves with Auburn in the lead. He left Big Cat Weekend very impressed with Auburn. He made a visit during the Ole Miss game weekend and left very impressed. Every time I talk to someone close to Lattimore they see the same routine as I do. Auburn, Auburn, Auburn. With that being said, South Carolina has done everything they can to turn Lattimore to their side. They have definitely closed the gap due to in-state pressure, but in the end I believe Auburn prevails. I have had Auburn on the top for Lattimore for several months, and Auburn has done a great job recruiting him. Closing in on signing day I expect South Carolina to give it everything they have, but I don't think it will be enough. Percentage he signs with Auburn: 60% There are also several recruits to keep a close eye on as National Signing Day approaches because a lot can change. LB Victor Beasley DB Darius Robinson WR Markeith Ambles OL James Stone At the end of the day on February 3rd no matter what happens you should still be very proud of what these coaches have done for this Auburn Football program. They will have landed a top 5 recruiting class and put Auburn BACK on the map with all the top programs in the country. |
